The Morning Shake – My Key to a great day! The single most important factor in my personal quest towards improving my health.
Over the past 3 years, my wife Barb and I have had a morning healthy shake almost EVERY single morning (unless traveling). And when I say a shake, I mean a BIG shake. I drink a 2 litre blender full of all great healthy ingredients that help me have a great start to the day. It also ensures that if I go “off track’ during the day through business lunches or dinners that at least I have filled my body with amazing nutrients to start my day.
I also must say that after introducing this to my diet 3 years ago (amongst other healthy lifestyle changes) my blood tests improved dramatically in just 3 short months combined with considerable weight loss (over 30 lbs in 3 months). I believe that this is due to the fact that I am flooding my system with amazing nutrients that satisfy my hunger cravings for the day.
People constantly ask me what I put in my morning shake so thought I would share. I do deviate from this based on what we have in the fridge but this is generally what I put in my morning shake. I should also mention that I don’t really measure the quantities of what I put in so the taste and nutrients vary by the day. Also, for the frozen fruits and vegetables, I try to use organic where possible.
Kev’s Shake Recipe
Chia or Flax Seed or Hemp seed (quite often i choose between these 3 and sometimes use 1, 2 or all 3)
Fish oil (generally just pour in for a second or two)
Frozen Blueberries, Strawberries or other fruits (once again i mix it up depending on how I feel)
Frozen or fresh spinach (hopefully organic) or Kale
Plant based Protein Powder – typically 1 scoop
Gluatamine (Mojo Max Health is my favourite and cleanest)
Powdered Greens (optional)
A touch of cinnamon (to lower cholesterol)
And that is about it. I fill my Vitamix (is our household most popular appliance) full to the brim with water and blend away until it is in liquid form. If I am going straight to work then I will drink it all at breakfast however if I am going to workout, I will have some prior to my workout then finish the rest (to replenish my glycogen stores) after my workout.
I know this is a lot of liquid to have at once so there is no reason why you cant have some for breakfast then sip on the rest while at work or elsewhere to fend off Hunger.
Happy blending and I know it will totally change how you feel during the day!
Yours in good health, Kev

Hi Kevin
Thanks so much for adding me to the list of those you can read your blog. I think you a great candidate for
writing a blog. You have been in the health business for many years and I know everyone is going to enjoy
reading your suggestions and thoughts.
I love the shake and will definitely try it. Looking forward to reading more.
Best of Luck

Hi there Kevin, I think I’ll try this shake! Question, do you think an immersion blender would do the job?
Hi Kev! You should add a citrus fruit (lemon, lime, orange or grapefruit) to your smoothies so that your body can absorb the greens and nutrients that are in your smoothie! Also, add some quality fats to that smoothie (coconut oil, raw nut butter, MCT oil)! Have your fish oil after a meal, or at bedtime – by the Tbsp! Love the blog!
